Audemars Piguet revamped its Royal Oak Dual Time a few months ago. No more black, blue or white dials, now this Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Dual Time replica watch 39 mm model in steel is only available on a perfectly relifted blue dial associated with an alligator strap of the same color. The dial
The watchmaker from Le Brassus ceased production of all these references to focus on a single model, ref # 26124ST.OO.D018CR.01. Basically little change, except for the dial which has been very beautifully rejuvenated.
Of course, we find the same configuration overall: power reserve at 10 o’clock (arc of a circle), date at 2 o’clock (counter), day / night indication at 7:30 and “last but not least”, the GMT at 6 o’clock with hour hands and minutes. Fans will of course recognize the Jaeger-LeCoultre automatic caliber (38h power reserve) found in the Masters and even in some versions of the Overseas Vacheron Constantin.
The dial features a very beautiful blue with a “Tapestry” motif, applied indexes and Royal Oak hands in white gold with luminescent coating. The power reserve has been visually reworked for a distinctly more contemporary appearance. The up-down (which gives this piece its nickname) is a good idea. The date remains almost the same with the 31 in red but with redrawn numbers and the appearance of a line of dots placed below them.
The day / night indication has also been revised: the white semicircle of the “day” has been replaced by a blue semicircle circled in white which fits better into the overall aesthetic of the dial. As for the GMT, it remains broadly the same, but the figures, again, are much more contemporary. In short, a very successful relifting which makes the old models a bit “has-been”. The whole being protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal.
The case
For the rest, we find the famous case of the Royal Oak 39 mm in diameter (10.3 mm thick), waterproof to 50 meters. A perfectly-sized full-bottom box that fits most wrists, which is far from the case with the three-hand 41mm version!
The set is worn on a slightly electric blue alligator strap on a steel folding clasp. Note that you can mount your watch on a blue RubberB strap designed for 41 mm cases. You will notice a little play between the box and the strap but nothing really bad.
The movement
In the end, a very beautifully crafted watch which retains the ideal size of the Royal Oak cases with a very reliable caliber from Jaeger-LeCoultre. As there is only one reference of this type left in the collection, we can imagine that this is probably the very last generation of Royal Oak Dual Time replica watch in this configuration before AP unveils us, in the years to come, an “in house” caliber which will replace this JLC engine.
